Creating your first In-App message
Now that you know all about the benefits of in-app messages, it's time to create one.
We'll break this down into three parts:
Setting up your in-app message
Writing and designing your in-app message
Choosing what happens when a user clicks
Let's do this.
Setting up your in-app message
To get started, go to the Copilot.cx Canvas and follow these simple steps:
Select your audience – this is the group of users you want to receive your in-app message
Select "In-app" – you'll have a choice between "Email" or "In-app"
Choose a layout – you can pick between several templates and you can also swap layouts later if you change your mind
Set the trigger event – this is the app or user trigger that will determine when the message will be sent (you also have a toggle to ignore your touchpoint policy here)
Writing and designing your in-app message
Once you've set up your message, it's time to get creative with copy and design.
Here are the main ways you can customize your in-app messages:
Choose an image – upload an image to grab the user's attention
Write the copy – edit headings, body copy, and button text to maximize impact
Select the font and background colors – play around with different combinations to maximize performance and align with the look and feel of your app
When you're done, test your in-app message on different devices to see how it looks. This is especially important for images, as certain parts can be cut off depending on the user's screen size.
Choosing what happens when a user clicks
You've set up your In-App Message, and it looks great. Now, you need to choose what happens when a user clicks on it.
In this step, you have two main elements that you can control:
The type of call to action (CTA) – choose from options like "rate us" and "send email" to define exactly what will happen when a user clicks
Set the primary CTA for measuring clickthrough rate (CTR) – this is the CTA used when tracking the campaign from your dashboard.
Now, you can go ahead and test your In-App Message to get the full look and feel and then continue to the next article to learn more about specifics.
